I won a gift $100 gift certificate from BestBuy and frankly, I have no idea of what to do with it.

memory? got enough
back up drive? got enough
blank dvds? got enough
USB key drive? got one
keyboards, mice, cables? do I really need more of that, even if my old stash is not wireless?

Anything for the car? No need for audio
Any home appliances, blenders? No need for that.
Phones? No need for a new cellphone and the smart ones are over $100

Which is why I'm not shopping for a new television set or anything like that. It's either too big or I don't really want to spend more than $100 bucks on anything I don't need.

I did check if they had speedometers or odometers for bicycles. They don't. At a $100, that would have been a cool electronic gadget to buy. Unfortunately, you have to drive a big car to be a Bestbuy customer.

A smart company would have figured that they need to cater to smart geeks who don't need cars to show off how masculine they are.

The camcorders looked interesting, but again nothing for my budget and I have no inclination to spend more than the value of the gift certificate, plus or minus $10 bucks.

So I went hunting for the one thing they could provide, DVDs. Of course, I looked at animation films. In particular, I looked at Miazaki's stuff. I don't have much of that, so it can't hurt to stock up on that.

Turns out BestBuy is out of My Neighbor Totoro, The Cat Returns, Porco Rosso and Spirited Away. I'm pretty sure these four films would have more than made up for the lack of choice at BestBuy.

What's a man to do?

Well, I did call the so-called 24 hour line at BestBuy, but the automated system said I should call the store instead, so I was back to square one. The stores were closed - of course!

I'm thinking of asking some friends if they want to exchange this gift certificate and give me $100 instead.

It's amazing in this day and age that a someone cannot buy anything from a large chain store whose sole purpose is to sell people crap they don't need.

Maybe that's my problem, what I really need, BestBuy can't provide...
